#152 – Learning Business From “Enron Execs” In Prison; To Building A 22 Truck + 30 Trailer Trucking Fleet!

Early Life:

Demetrius Martin did not have an easy life. He was born and raised in South Carolina. He was always a smart kid but also quiet and withdrawn. However, Martin never had the opportunity to go to college. Growing up in the streets took its toll, and he eventually took the wrong route. One wrong turn led him to prison at the age of 19 for 5 years.

When Martin came out, he wanted to make something of himself, but he lacked the exposure and ended up getting involved in another conspiracy that led him back to prison for 10 years. However, after serving his time in prison, he learned it was a humbling and eye-opening experience. He gained new skills inside, which have helped him stay out of trouble since his release.

Martin started working as a truck driver for a trash company after getting his class A CDL. He quickly saved up some money and used it to purchase his truck. Martin credits the success to his sister, who always encouraged him and helped him stay motivated.

Interaction With TN’H:

Our interview with Demetrius Martin was certainly one to remember. In the interview, he had to say a lot about the trucking industry, and he began by sharing his experience of how he started his own trucking company and grew it to 22 trucks.

Martin’s company, 250 logistics, is a logistics company that carries general dry van freight. Martin has been running the business for over five years; he started it with his sister and has since grown it into a successful business. During an hour-long interview, Martin gave away some valuable insights to the entrepreneur who wants to start a trucking company. Some of these insights include how to get started in the trucking industry, how to find customers and routes, and how to stay competitive.

There are many ways to start a trucking business. However, there are still some questions that haven’t been answered. For example, where to find loads and how to decide which load is good and which is bad. You also might not know whether or not you should buy a new truck or an old one. Even the benefits of leasing a truck are not entirely known. Martin tried to answer all these questions in his interview.

Final Thought:

Demetrius Martin closed his interview with the most motivating quote he could think of: “If you find your sweet spot, don’t quit. Don’t let anybody hinder you.”
