Amazon ups maximum box length for FBA orders

Amazon has increased the maximum box length for Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) orders in the U.S. from 25 inches to 36 inches, which is effective from June 20. Letting other size and weight limits remain the same. The change allows sellers to redesign packaging, potentially cutting logistics costs and aligning with industry standards. Amazon confirmed that packages already shipped under the new size will be accepted as standard without defects or extra fees. According to the agency Deckgrow, sellers can now maximize up to 95% of allowed box dimensions and weight, reducing inbound and outbound costs for Amazon Warehousing and Distribution (AWD), Amazon’s bulk storage service. The update is particularly beneficial for sellers shipping longer products, easing compliance with Amazon’s strict dimension policies that can otherwise result in shipment blocks. However, Amazon warns that boxes exceeding 36 inches are only acceptable if they contain a single oversized item and aren’t significantly larger than necessary. Oversized boxes that exceed these parameters risk shipping restrictions, added fees, or rejection at fulfillment centers. Broader shipping industry trends also influence this move, as carriers like FedEx and UPS have recently raised fees for handling large packages due to the challenges they pose in their networks. This change offers sellers flexibility but requires careful packaging strategies.
