Driving For Change — 5 Ways You Can Make Money Driving

If you have a car, congratulations! You have one of the most significant assets most Americans own, other than their houses. And there are many ways you can use your car to make money.

Using your car to deliver food or papers has always meant navigating the world of transportation and logistics. The evolution of the gig economy has opened new possibilities for making money by driving your own car. Here are some of the terrific ways to start making money driving your car today.

1. Ride Sharing
Although Uber has been around since 2009, it remains the dominant player in the ridesharing industry. Lyft has been in action since 2012, and although it does not have a reputation for being anti-driver, many people keep both apps open for an increase in income.
If you own a car and have a clean driving record, driving for Uber or Lyft can be easy to make money. Driving at night or during rush hour in busy areas of significant cities might yield higher pay than during other times.

Both Uber and Lyft have stringent requirements for the type of car you can drive; newer cars with four doors are required, in addition to state-by-state standards.

2. App-Based Delivery
Many people enjoy the convenience of having food delivered directly to their doors by restaurants. If you’ve got a car, time on your hands, and a good sense of direction, it might be worth making some extra money by delivering food from local restaurants to people’s homes.

Because of their popularity as mobile apps, Uber Eats and DoorDssh have begun delivering food. The experience is unique in that you take on a different job: delivering food rather than people.

Instacart could be a perfect way to make money if you can do a bit more than just pick up pre-packaged orders and drop them off. As an Instacart shopper, you go grocery shopping for people using their list and then drop the groceries off at their house using your car. You can make $10 to $25 an hour depending on how busy the service is when you want to work.

3. Renting Your Car
If you have a load of money tied up in major assets such as a house or a car, Airbnb can help you make the most of that money by providing you with new ways to use those assets. Turo is another car-rental service that lets you rent your vehicle to people who want to use it for short trips instead of owning it themselves. The site has a nifty calculator that helps you estimate how much money you could make by renting out your car.

Renting your car out to rideshare drivers through HyreCar is a great way to supplement your income. The service says you can make up to $1,100 a month.

4. Help People Move
You can make money by helping people move. It doesn’t necessarily require a lot of experience, and you can offer several different services to make more money. Depending on where you live, your hourly rate could range from $20 to $50.

If you have a cargo van or a box truck and need extra cash, try using GoShare to connect with people who need items to be moved.

5. Deliver for Amazon
Amazon Flex, Amazon’s courier service, has proven to be a popular solution for many of Amazon’s customers because it allows customers to get their orders within an hour or two of placing them, which is much faster than the delivery times offered by UPS, FedEx, and the U.S. Postal Service.

Amazon Flex offers an opportunity to use your own car to make money delivering packages. You can earn $18 to $25 an hour. You choose when you want to deliver packages from an Amazon warehouse, and the app gives you directions for completing deliveries.
